2016 Reformation Offering
Only one year remains until we celebrate the 500th year of the Reformation! The California – Nevada – Hawaii District of the Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod receives funding from the gifts of congregations within the District and a few individuals. However, once a year we engage in a thank-offering opportunity, remembering the power of the Gospel, which shined brightly in the time of the reformers and is a beacon in the church today. The Reformation offering under the theme, “Faith for the Next Generation,” was started with the ideal that a small gift from each believer in our District would make a big difference for the work of the Lord. Just a bit more than a $1 per baptized member will provide $50,000 to the District for special projects and opportunities that are above and beyond our present budget. This offering has historically allowed us to respond to areas of unplanned needs and will support these three areas:
Assisting the debt reduction program of the District for all new professional workers in our CNH District.
Assistance for missiological and theological education for all the baptized (developing leaders).
Special Mission projects – language other than English, youth, and hands-on mission. (Special grants beyond the normal scope of the congregational mission mini-grants.)
We hope to offer educational booster grants for active professional workers this year, as well.
As a leader in your congregation, you have numerous opportunities presented by wonderful agencies who need support. However, there is a unique and important aspect to this fundraising opportunity. This event allows all people to participate, and at the same time, makes an important, visible, and significant gift to the District for the Lord’s work.
In order to facilitate this effort in your congregation, we are providing a couple of items which will assist you.
Click here for bulletin notes for three Sundays leading up to Reformation Sunday. We would like for you to include these into your bulletin for the weeks of October 23, October 30, and November 6.
If you decide that you would prefer to use a donation box, please contact Charlotte Elliott (firstname.lastname@example.org), and the box will be sent to you. The box can be placed in the back of the church, front of the church, or even passed around for these donations each Sunday.

In most churches, there is a single donor or two who can easily write a check to match the $1 per baptized member in your congregation. However, that would defeat the purpose of this event if others relied on this one person. We want all people to be part of the Reformation, including people who can make large donations and people who can only afford $1. We want all people to feel they support this effort. Most of all, we want all people to participate in the mission of bringing Christ to all people in our communities and beyond. Please join us by supporting this annual mission campaign which remembers our heritage, our God, and our neighbors.
