General Information on the Student Aid and Recruitment Committee (SARC)

The Student Aid and Recruitment Committee (SARC) for the CNH District has  several distinct goals:

RECRUIT NEW WORKERS: to aid in the recruitment of people into full-time church work at local congregation, the District, and the Synod levels. This includes predominantly the pastoral ministry, DOE's, Music ministers and parochial school teachers but also may include other specialized positions of full time church work currently being developed within our congregations and at District/Synod levels (youth director, administrative secretary, business manager, etc.).

ENCOURAGE CONGREGATIONAL/PASTORAL RECRUITING: to encourage pastors and church members to seek out and encourage potential candidates for full time church work as well as encourage/assist those who are currently planning to attend or are attending in seeking such available aid

AID AWARD/OVERSIGHT: to provide and oversee the awarding of funds in the form of scholarships and/or Financial Aid annually to those students preparing to enter into full time church work in such areas.

PROVIDE INFORMATION AND APPLICATION FORMS: to make sure current information/application forms on such scholarships and/or financial aid are readily available to those wishing to prepare for full time church by attending our synodical schools as well as to students currently attending synodical schools, universities and seminaries.

KEEP CURRENT STUDENT INFORMATION: to keep a current database of such students who make application as well as those currently receiving aid, keeping in constant contact and working with both student and institution to assure timely access, receipt and use of said monies.

KEEP CURRENT SCHOLARSHIP/AID INFORMATION: to keep and make available a current database of such scholarships or financial available in addition to those monies currently awarded by the SARC.

ENCOURAGE ENDOWMENT ENHANCEMENT/DEVELOPMENT: to encourage the enhancement of current scholarships to those students from all sources (congregational, recognized EQ-MS Auxiliary Organizations [i.e., LWML], private) as well as the development of additional resources not currently in existence.

New Applicants

If you are a new applicant (either planning on entering a synodical school OR are currently attending one but are applying for the first time) you must fill out two applications for District Financial Aid:

1) The CNH application - a once-only application (downloadable below) which asks for extensive information regarding your financial needs, your reasons for entering full time church work, and includes a place for your pastor's assessment of your capabilities and financial need.

2) The "District Financial Aid Application (LC-MS)" - a three-sheet application which must be filled out each year aid is requested, listing simply your name, address, home congregation, period of time aid requested, requires your pastor's signature and is submitted to the Financial Aid Office of the school you are/will be attending (see school e-mail address below).

You may obtain each of these forms from the Financial Aid Office of the school you will be attending (see school e-mail address below).

Contact person for Student Aid is the Rev. Bob Weller at
pastor@sanjoselutheran.org or (408) 997-4848.

"Re-Applicants"

If you have received financial aid previously through our organization, simply make sure you submit your ``District Financial Aid Application (LC-MS)" to the school you'll be attending in the Fall before the deadline (IMPORTANT: some may be changing schools between May to September. So as to avoid any delay in receiving aid monies it is crucial the committee receives the application from the school you'll be attending Fall of your award year).

Deadline for Application

The deadline for application for CNH District is July 1 prior to your starting date. Please allow yourself, your pastor and the school ample time to complete and process the application and get it in to the SARC (no later than 2 months before July 1).
