Rev. Ted Hartman is mission counselor for the Northern Region.

Ted has served in this position since November 2004. He was senior pastor at Our Savior Lutheran Ministries, Livermore California, from 1995 until 2004. He served St. John Lutheran Church Bakersfield, California, as Senior Pastor from 1985 to 1995. He was pastor at First Lutheran Church, Temple City, California, from 1975 to 1985.

Before graduation from Concordia Theological Seminary, Springfield, he taught and coached baseball and basketball in a Northern Indiana High School. He graduated from Valparaiso University in 1968 with a B.A. in History with a teaching minor.

Ted has been married to Martha nee Selle since 1967. They have been blessed with four daughters and then 4 wonderful sons-in-law and then 7 grandchildren. Ted and Marty have been a presenting clergy couple with Lutheran Marriage Encounter since 1981. They are currently the International Clergy Couple for the same organization.

Ted has served on boards of directors for Lutheran High School, La Verne California; Lutheran Social Services of Southern California; and the CNH District.

Ted and Marty live in Garden Valley, California.

John Whaley is Mission Counselor for the Southern Region and Hawaii.

John has been on District staff since 1996 as Business Administrator and Stewardship Exec, and now as Mission Counselor since May, 2004.  Prior to serving on District staff, he served two years as Director of General Services at the International Center of the LCMS in St. Louis.  Before that, John spent 23 years working for A.T.& T/Pacific Bell as an Engineering Manager.

Over the years John has been on many boards and committees of both District and Synod, and as a layman, brings a unique perspective to mission and ministry.

John and Deborah, have been married since 1969 and are blessed with two children, a son and daughter.  John and Deborah live in Paso Robles, Ca.

Joel Koerschen is the education executive for the CNH District.

Joel has been on district staff since 1988. Before that he was a principal, teacher and youth worker in Colorado, Texas and California. He is a graduate of Concordia University, St. Paul, and the University of Colorado, Boulder.

Joel resides in Stockton with his wife Carolyn and their two children, J.W. and Claire.
