The CNH Salary Task Force will soon provide new tools for determining the compensation of workers in your congregation. These are being field tested for accuracy and ease of use and will be made available for congregations to use in the first quarter of 2008. Until those tools are available, please use a cost of living adjustment between 2 and 3 percent depending upon the economy of your area. Average cost of living increase is 2.5% for the year. However, local real estate costs will have an impact on that figure. Simply add the cost of living increase into the base salary and use the guideline as in the past (see Salary Guidelines 2007 on the CNH website under Financial Resources. CNH-LCMS.org). Another helpful resource for determining salary comparisons of pastors and other church workers in your area go to Homefair.com; click on Salary Calculator; type in Pastor under Job Title. The same can be done for teacher-elementary, or teacher-day care. You can also type in "clergy" under Job title for a list of a several ministry categories that may fit your congregation such as associate pastor, DCE (called religious activities and education director).
